Biography and works
Petko Hinov was born on 4 September 1972 in Plovdiv. After completing his secondary education at the Plovdiv English High School (1991), he studied and graduated from Sofia University with a first major in Chinese Studies and a second major in Romanian Studies (1996).
He published his book of poems
Mourning Songs/ Lament for the Homeland and the Soul as part of the
Orthodox Home internet collection under the pseudonym Philip Andreev. Some of his other stories and articles were also posted there. He was a translator of articles and books from English, Russian, Romanian, Chinese, Serbian, and Church Slavonic to Bulgarian, and also from Bulgarian to English, Russian, and Chinese. Some of his translations have been published on the Internet. Petko Hinov was author of liturgical hymns and services in Church Slavonic. He is also audiobook narrator on the Internet, on his own site.
In 2006, a collection compiled by him and dedicated to the martyrs of Batak was published with the title
On the Tracks/In the Footsteps of the Bulgarian New Martyrs, volume 1 -
The New Martyrs of Batak.
Between 2010 - 2013, he worked as an English teacher in Foshan, Guangdong Province, China.
In 2013, he returned to Bulgaria with his Chinese wife and started working as a translator (Chinese, Old Chinese, Old Bulgarian, Old Russian), collaborator, editor, and consultant for
Iztok -Zapad Publishing House.
In July 2015, he participated in the
Science and Education Programme for Young Sinologists organized by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and worked at the Institute studying the novel
A Dream of Red Mansions. As a result of this appears his research:
The Tears of Love Between Nostalgia and Beauty in “A Dream of Red Mansions” and Bulgarian Literature.
In April 2016, Petko T. Hinov becomes a member of the
Bulgarian Translators’ Union (Fiction section).
